As I go one chapter at a time with the 29 Gifts book, I want to see how the story progresses day-by-day. I am kind of going along with the same process the author went through. So, I don't really know how the author's story (life) turns out yet as a result of her uncommon prescription of giving away gifts for 29 straight days, because I haven't read the whole book yet. I could also flip ahead and get some different gift ideas, but am choosing not to since the gifts are supposed to be authentic and mindful -- and mine. :)
On Day 4 (March 22), Cami is alone in her apartment feeling run down from the all-day visit with Lauri the day before. She was supposed to go out to dinner with her friend Ingrid, whose mother had MS as well. She could tell that Ingrid was upset when she called to cancel. They ended up chatting on the phone for an hour, and Cami felt better so Ingrid came over to pick her up to go out and eat. The go to the trendy Urth Cafe in LA and talked even more. She spent a lot of her time compassionately listening to Ingrid which makes them both feel better. She brought home a piece of sugar free chocolate cake, and decided to give it to her husband as her gift for the day (in addition to the compassion and listening she did earlier).
My gift for Day 4 is a handwritten thank you letter and a happy repayment of a loan for my friend Alice from Philadelphia. Alice helped me out big-time when I was short on cash and trying to catch a cab ride to the airport to catch my flight from DC to back home. I thought I'd be fine just using my credit card for expenses, including the taxi cab fare back to the airport since it worked that way on the cab ride into DC. When our businss meeting ended, three of us went outside to catch a cab to our respective airports. I caught a cab but the driver didn't accept credit cards. Same story with the next cab. My friend Alice noticed my dilemma and asked if she could help. She then reached into her wallet and whipped out $100, handed it over without blinking and wished me luck on my trip. I was SO thankful to her for doing that, and I even made my flight with a few minutes to spare. I'll follow it up with a phone call to make her day like she did for me with the cab situation in DC.
Greetings! It's been a while!
