Cami's 18th gift (April 5) is to her grandmother who's 86th birthday is in a week. She reminisces about her meager and humble lifestyle and different memories of growing up in central Nebraska. She wraps up a dishtowel and potholder, which she know will be put to good use, and writes out a nice card expressing how much she loves and appreciates her.
Tonight was our annual board of directors dinner. As I'm driving home a bit later than usual, I had an OMG moment thinking that I forgot about my gift for the day. Things have been very hectic lately! But when I got home I remember that I hosted a special StrengthFinder session with my team at work. If it was just the two-hour session, I probably wouldn't count this as a gift. It's the extras that what really count, like the personalized, framed Strengths certificates made for each team member and of course some sweet treats - the holiday chocolates - to top it off! Everyone enjoyed the session and loved their gift. Plus, there was definite interest in having an ongoing monthly dialogue to put their individual and collective strengths into action. What joy!
At the dinner, I have the pleasure of being seated next to one of our Pittsburgh directors who has traveled to the Dominican Republic - which is where I'll be in 18 days! We talk about the purpose of this mission trip. He reminds of the Starfish story and advises me to be realistic in my expectations; "you can't save them all, but if you can save one you've made a huge difference for that one!" Though we are not saving the world, I'll be satisfied that I did my best to make a difference no matter how many people it impacts -- and hope to make at least a bit of a difference for at least one....
Greetings! It's been a while!
