I recently took on the 29-Gift Challenge based on the book entitled "29 Gifts: How a Month of Giving Can Change Your Life" by Cami Walker. I picked up this book at Border's a couple months ago and decided it would be a great way to prepare for the Mission Possible trip to the Dominican. I read the book one chapter at a time, and I captured my daily giving on this blog and at the same time, learned and wrote about the author's story and gift for the day. I really didn't know how her story ended until I finished the book.
The final chapter of the book which I read today includes an Epilogue at the one-year checkup point. Cami completes her 365th consecutive day of giving! This means she is in her thirteenth 29-day giving cycle. And, her life looks completely different than it did one year ago. Though she is not cured of the disease, she copes with it a lot better. She walks better, has closer and more fulfilling relationships, and is no longer worried if she has enough money since she's come to realize this is an endless resource and puts her trust in God to provide the funds to meet their needs.
She also has started a world-wide movement of people committed to the vision of a worldwide goodwill movement. The mission is to create a grassroots revival of the giving spirit. At one year, there are nearly 5000 people in 38 countries committed to the 29-Day Giving Challenge and signed up on her website at http://www.29gifts.org/. More than 8000 stories and 2000 pieces of art have been posted. I signed up today to become a member of 29gifts.org:)
